The studio

La Bourgeoise Sérigraphe is a small screen printing studio founded in 2009 by Iris Sautier. In addition to professional printing services, the studio offers classes and supervised rentals to a wide range of individuals, businesses, and entrepreneurs. The company started out in a basement on Rue Berri, before moving in the summer of 2018 to a brand new space on Rue Laurier East. La Bourgeoise Sérigraphe’s 1850 square foot studio is fully equipped for graphic and textile screen printing in small, medium and large formats, as well as inkjet printing and intaglio. These complex, multi-step processes can all be achieved inside the studio space, allowing for efficient work in a comfortable environment.

The team

As a former graphic designer, Iris worked for over a decade in various graphic design companies in Switzerland, New York, and Montreal, before trading her computer for ink and paper. Fascinated by both colour and material, Iris set out to start her own screen printing studio in 2009. Since then she has further developed her skills and interests by learning other printing processes, such as intaglio and lithography. This has allowed her to better understand the history and development of these time-honoured crafts and how she is connected to her artistic predecessors. After studying Print Media at Concordia University, in 2018 she completed an MFA in Printmaking at Royal College of Art in London. Although proficient in lithography and screen printing, Iris’s heart lies with intaglio and relief, and it is these two processes that are her medium of choice for her own practice as an artist.

Belgian textile designer Laure Pitz joined the team in 2016, working alongside Iris and supervising other freelance printers. With a background in graphic design, Laure worked for 13 years in various companies in Brussels, Paris, and Montreal, before deciding to build her own kids’ clothing brand Hochet Gaga in 2016. She discovered a love for screen printing in 2013 after taking a beginner’s class at La Bourgeoise Sérigraphe and a friendship between the two women began. Laure took over running the business in 2016 when Iris left for London, quickly becoming the best business partner Iris could dream of.
